12 Striders, 3 events and 3 PB’s – parkrun Roundup – 28.11.15

Despite the cold conditions, 12 Striders ventured out to a parkrun event on Saturday morning.

At Harrogate, Ian Mitchell led home the 4 Striders in attendance, clocking a time of 22:07. Only 8 seconds behind was Nicola Carter (22:15) and she was followed by Nick Wallen (25:54) and Eric Morley (26:55).

The World Heritage site of Fountains Abbey welcomed 6 Striders, with 3 of them achieving PB’s. James Wright was first back in 19:10 (PB), followed closely by Guy Close who finished in a time of 20:01. Joining them were regular Fountains Abbey attendee Phil Chatterton (21:34), Sean Brennan (21:58 – PB), Dawn Richardson (28:48 – PB) and Bill Kirkpatrick (31:40).

On the Knavesmire in York, Conrad Garcia and Julian Carr battled against strong winds to record times of 20:41 and 21:50 respectively.

Don’t forget that it’s the monthly Striders parkrun visit this coming Saturday (5th December). We will be visiting the Woodhouse Moor event in Leeds. A car share scheme will be in place from KCC – meet at 07:55am for a 08:00am departure.

Curry, parkruns and Cross Country – Weekend Roundup

From the heat of Fridays Curry Night, to the chill of the wind at Cross Country on Sunday, it was another action packed weekend for Knaresborough Striders.

Starting the weekend off in style, 32 Striders attended the club Curry night at the Dil Raj on Friday night. It was great to see so many out supporting a club social night, especially a number of recently joined members. Big thanks to Tom Burrell for making all of the arrangements.

Moving into Saturday, 6 Striders represented the club at parkrun events. At Harrogate, Nicola Carter was first Strider back, taking 2nd lady overall in a time of 22:11. Joining her on the windswept Stray was Anthony Everitt (28:20), Rob Charlesworth (28:48), Tracy Allison (29:30) and Emma Greveson (44:26). At the Fountains Abbey event, Phil Chatterton completed the course in 33:39.

On Sunday, the first Peco Cross Country race of the 15/16 season took place at Temple Newsam. It was a record breaking attendance for any Peco XC event, with just over 800 participants (21 Striders) taking on the hilly and muddy 4.6 mile course. This event also marked the first time Striders were competing for XC league points, after competing as a ‘guest’ club over the last 2 years.

Starting with the Ladies, Nicola Carter was the first blue and yellow vest across the finish line, recording a time of 35:11. Sima Lowery was next in 36:04, followed by Sue Morley (41:06), Andrea Price (46:46), Tracey Allison (48:03), Edna Wood (48:45), Dawn Richardson (50:09), Katie Gray (51:26), Janet Morris (51:45) & June Graham (53:03). Those results have put the ladies in excellent league positions – 4th (of 8) in the 2nd Division and 1st (of 11) in the Vets First Division! What a start for the ladies!

The men were also well represented, with Keith Emery taking first Strider honours (and just missing out on a top 100 spot) with a time of 31:15. Following him up the muddy finishing straight was James Wright in 32:07. They were chased down by Dan Wilson (33:21), Sean Brennan (34:36), Phil Cornforth (34:37), Ian Mitchell (35:59), Andy Robinson (37:51), Julian Carr (39:27), Eric Morley (43:59), Steve Morris (51:40) and John Williams (54:13). The result sees the club just holding off Harrogate Harriers to sit in 3rd (of 8) in the 2nd Division, with a placing of 7th (of 11) in the Vets 1st Division.

Club Championships 2015 – FINAL Report

Clearly the Club Championship was dominated by Veteran athletes this year in the Mens and Ladies. Thirty four men and thirty four ladies took part.

The Ladies champion was Nicola Carter, who had the title sewn up by mid summer with the improving Sima in second place just seeing off Dawn, who was within three points of her and Andrea Price was fourth. These four Ladies were the only ones to do enough qualifying races. Pamela, Clare and Judith, all won one race on the age grading system, Guy Fawkes 10, York 10k and club Time Trial respectively.

The mens title was taken by Ian Mitchell, again by mid-summer. Excellent late season form from Conrad saw him take second place by one point from consistent performer Martin in third. James finished just outside the medals in fourth place, seeing off the challenge of Dan and Andy. Frequent racer Julian was seventh. Only these runners completed six events or more. Well done to Bill Kirkpatrick, who in his one Championship event – the Abbey Dash – jumped into 24th position.

Next year in the mens, Simon, Guy and Keith could easily challenge for the title, presuming they can get the races in and remain injury free.

Finally WELL DONE to all.

My best recall of the season, watching the fantastic effort put in by every Strider into regaining the Mob Match Shield at Burton Leonard.

CROSS COUNTRY No1 @ Temple Newsam

As Cross Country secretary, I would just like to say WELL DONE to the 20 Striders who turned out today at Temple Newsam, and whilst I could not view Striders at the sharp end finishing, I did see Striders giving all on a muddy, sloping finish. Results will make interesting reading.

Cheers Eric

Weekend Results – 14th and 15th November

With a number of Striders resting up for the Abbey Dash, it was a low turnout at parkrun on Saturday morning – but a club record was beaten at the Harrogate event.

Keith Emery clocked a time of 19:16 to finish in 2nd place, which is the highest placing by a Strider at any parkrun event. He was joined on a windswept Stray by Graeme Kilvington who recorded a time of 24:13. Gareth Conckleton, James Wright and Sean Brennan were also in attendance in a volunteering capacity. At the Fountains Abbey event, Liam Kennedy finished in 24:45 to set a new PB.

The Sunday morning storms didn’t deter a large number of Striders making the short trip to Leeds for the annual Abbey Dash 10k. Weather conditions improved for the start of the event, with the wind and rain departing almost exactly as the race begun. Leading home the Striders contingent of 26 (a record turnout?) was Martin Brock, dipping in just under 39 minutes with a time of 38:55. James Wright and Guy Close were next across the finish line, completing the flat course in 40:38 and 41:02 respectively. Dan Wilson was just over a minute behind Guy with a time of 42:06, with Ian Mitchell following in 42:25. Andy Robinson and Conrad Garcia were separated by only 13 seconds, finishing with times of 43:16 and 43:29. The battle for first Striders lady home was very close, as has been the case all year, between Sima Lowery and Nicola Carter. Sima held off Nicola by 11 seconds, stopping the clock in 44:44, with Nicola recording 44:55. Joining them in the final 2015 Club Championship event were Sean Brennan (45:32), Derek Calvert (46:42), Gareth Conkleton (47:09), Graeme Kilvington (50:25), John Greveson (52:30), Andrew Robert (53:11), Louise Annatt (53:11), Gemma Harding (56:17), Andrea Price (57:26), Dawn Richardson (58:27), Tracy Allison (58:44), Anthony Everitt (58:45), Jenny Cooley (59:27), Natalie Hale (59:48), Bill Kirkpatrick (01:02:00), Liz Bowden (01:05:14) and Emma Walsh (01:29:51).
