A cold weekend but some great performances from Striders across three different events.
On Saturday, the club was represented at Harrogate and Fountains Abbey parkruns. On the Stray, Nicola Carter and Rob Charlesworth completed the 3 laps of the Harrogate event, finishing in 21:58 and 29:59 respectively. At the very cold Fountains Abbey, Guy Close achieved a course PB, finishing in 19:26.
A chilly and frosty Sunday morning greeted 6 Striders at the Brass Monkey Half Marathon. The event, based at York Racecourse, is predominantly flat and attracted a field of just under 1800. James Wright led home the Striders contingent, crossing the line in a PB time of 01:27:02. He was chased down by Philip Cornforth (01:37:38) and a PB smashing Julian Carr (01:38:51). Next up was Sean Brennan, also beating his previous half marathon PB, who completed the course in 01:41:21. Andrea Price joined the PB party, taking 8 minutes off her previous best time to finish in 02:00:31. Natalie Hale took off over 7 minutes from her previous half marathon (Amsterdam) time to finish in 02:11:22. A fantastic effort by all Striders!
Also on Sunday, Graham Yare competed in the ‘Winter Wonder Run’ on the Newcastle Town Moor. The event is run over a 3.77 mile course, with participants given six hours to complete as many laps as possible. Graham completed 7 laps (a marathon) in 03:41:24 to finish in 4th place in the marathon standings.
