The weekend started with the latest monthly parkrun trip. The selected venue for the February trip was Pontefract – a one lap course around the racecourse. James Wright was first Strider across the finish line in 19:39, with Nicola Carter just under 2 minutes behind with a time of 21:35 (securing the ‘1st Female’ place and a course PB). The rain was really starting to come down hard now, but that didn’t put off Julian Carr or Ian Mitchell, who finished in 22:34 and 23:02 respectively. Taking on her first ever parkrun, Gemma Harding recorded a time of 24:34 and following her was Tracy Allison, who crossed the line in 29:30.
At Harrogate, Nick Wallen and Anthony Everitt put on the trail shoes for another ‘slip n slide’ around the Stray course to finish in 26:00 and 29:42. Fountains Abbey also had a visit from two Striders – Dawn Richardson (28:50) and Sue Randell (29:11).
A drier Sunday morning greeted Striders at two 10k events. At the Dewsbury 10k, Guy Close smashed his PB over the distance and set the bar high for the 2016 race season with a time of 39:18. Five Striders visited the Muddy Boots 10k, based at St Wilfrid’s school in Ripon. Liam Kennedy, who will be taking on a 100km run challenge later in the year for charity, was first Strider back in a time of 54:56. Andrea Price was next to complete the multi terrain course, clocking 01:01:24. The prolific Dawn Richardson recorded a course PB with a time of 01:03:51 and following her was Mark Shelton. In his first event representing the club, he stopped the clock in 01:05:01. Jane Day was just under a minute behind, finishing in a time of 01:05:56.
