Keswick Mountain Festival Update

The club trip to the Keswick Mountain Festival (Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd May) is approaching fast and with ticket prices now available, it’s time to start booking!

The entry prices and cost of camping are summarised here.

Whilst this is advertised as a three day trip, please feel free to come and join us for however long you want. Maybe you just want to come up on the Saturday for the 10km event or do you want to make it a full week away by spending some time up in the Lake District prior to meeting up with fellow Striders over the weekend? There are a number of options for staying in the area – Camping, Bed and Breakfasts, Hotels, Woodland Lodges, Caravans, etc. Where you choose to stay is up to you as the club will not be booking any accommodation for members to utilise. Meet up times will be advertised, especially for the sporting events and concerts, but come and go as you please!

As of 07/02/16, 9 Striders have signed up to an event and these entries are summarised here.. This will be updated every Friday evening (please let us know via info@knaresborough-striders.org.uk if you have entered but have not been added to the document).

We will shortly have a designated area on the website for the 2016 trips – watch out for updates.

The month of love…..but let’s just go running instead!

Along with our usual Tuesday and Thursday night training sessions, there are a number of other events taking place in February. A summary of ‘Whats On’ is below.

Thursday 4th February – Emma David Training Session
Emma will be taking a structured session that is suitable for all abilities. These are always really worthwhile sessions, with great feedback provided from previous participants. Meet at the clubhouse at the normal time of 19:30.

Saturday 6th February – Pontefract parkrun
Our first monthly parkrun visit of 2016 is to Pontefract parkrun. If you haven’t taken part in a parkrun event before why not join us? A free, 5km event that is open to all abilities – just register at parkrun.org.uk for your barcode. We will be operating a car share scheme to this event – please meet at KCC for 07:55am (08:00am departure).

Tuesday 9th February – Anniversary Party and AGM
Join us after training for the Striders Anniversary Party and AGM. The night will include presentation of the yearly awards, taking a look back at the highlights of 2015, looking ahead to how the club can progress in 2016 and undertaking a short AGM (which will also include appointment of new committee members). Hot food will be provided (£2) and the bar will be open.

Sunday 14th February – Peco Cross Country @ Roundhay Park
The 5th and final race of the 15/16 Peco Cross Country season will be held at Roundhay Park. It should be an exciting close to the season, with Striders ladies on the verge of taking top spot honours in 3 separate categories and the Mens team looking to beat Harrogate Harriers in the 2nd Division. If you haven’t competed on one of these events before, why not come and have a go?! See Eric Morley for further information.

Saturday 20th February – First Club Championship event @ Harrogate parkrun
The Stray plays host to the first Club Championship event of 2016 – Harrogate parkrun. Just turn up with your parkrun barcode and we will take a note of the all the Striders in attendance. Who will take an early lead in the championships? Every event counts so why not come down and get some ‘points on the board’?

Four parkruns and a Striders debut….it’s the weekend roundup

Striders were represented at four different parkrun events on Saturday, along with a debut visit to the Northern Cross Country Championships.

At Gateshead parkrun, Nicola Carter was the 2nd Female across the line after completing her 4th visit to the event. She finished in a time of 22:13. At York, Guy Close put in another solid performance to record a time of 19:33. Liam Kennedy made the short trip over to Fountains Abbey and crossed the line in 35:13 (“2 youngsters and a buggy in tow”). At the local Harrogate event, Anthony Everitt was first Strider, finishing in 28:57. He was joined by Rob Charlesworth (30:18), Tracy Allison (32:40) and Emma Greveson (35:46).

The Striders were represented for the first time at the Northern Cross Country Championships on Saturday. Sean Brennan headed over to Witton Park (near Blackburn) to take on the “extremely muddy” course. Competing in a strong field of 719 runners, he clocked a time of 01:11:19.
