Warmer weather for Peco XC

On Sunday morning, Striders finished off the 15/16 Peco Cross Country series with 15 members taking on the 4.7 mile course around Roundhay Park. With the sun shining and making conditions a little warmer than expected, the 600 runners were underway at 11am, with the first mile including a slippery trip up the notorious ‘Hill 60’.

Andy Robinson and James Wright were the first two Striders across the finish line, with Andy pushing ahead with 1.5 miles to go to finish in a time of 35:25, with James following 18 seconds later (35:43). Making a swift appearance on a break from university studies, James Cornforth was third Strider home, completing the course in 36:18. Sean Brennan (37:56), Nicola Carter (38:05 – 2nd in age category), Sima Lowery (38:47) were closely bunched up and were followed by Andy Roberts (42:11), Ian Mitchell (42:22) and, fresh from his 17 mile marathon training run on Saturday, Julian Carr (43:29). Sue Morley finished 2nd in her age category with a time of 47:02 to hold off the ever improving duo of Andrea Price (51:03) and Dawn Richardson (53:35). Edna Wood and Tracy Allison had a battle all the way round and were split by only 2 seconds at the end – finishing in 55:44 and 55:46 respectively. Making her third appearance of the season, Janet Morris finished strongly, stopping the clock on 57:33.
With Sundays race concluding the Peco series for another Winter, the final league standings have been announced. The ladies team took 1st place overall in the Vets 1st division (which sees them promoted the Vets Premier League for the 16/17 series) and 5th overall in the main 2nd division. It is hoped that two female Striders have taken top 3 places in their age categories – watch this space for further news! The men finished 4th in the 2nd division and 7th in the Vets 1st Division.
