After a week of turmoil for parkrun, due to the decision by a local parish council to charge Little Stoke parkrun for use of the events venue, it was good to see Striders well represented at four different parkrun events.
At the Harrogate event, five Striders battled against strong winds to complete the 3 laps of the Stray. Sean Brennan was the first Strider to the finish, coming across the line in 22:08. He was chased down by Nick Wallen (24:19), a PB smashing Mark Shelton (27:54), Rob Charlesworth (29:11) and completing her first ever parkrun, Emma Hall finished with a time of 37:01.
Across at Fountains Abbey, perfect running conditions greeted the five Striders in attendance. James Wright stopped the clock on 20:00 and he was joined by Derek Calvert (23:07), Paul Heywood (28:28), Dawn Richardson (28:44 – PB) and Edna Wood (28:58).
At York, Julian Carr dodged the puddles on the Knavesmire course to finish in 23:44. Down in London, Tom Calvert finished 3rd at the Crystal Palace event with a time of 19:08.
The latest club championship event, the Ben Campbell 10k, was visited by eight Striders on Sunday morning. The tough event based in Kilburn Woods at Sutton Bank, is arranged in memory of popular club member Ben who sadly died in January 2015. The final results are not yet available but the finishing order for Striders was Andy Robinson, Nicola Carter (1st Lady), Stewart Hymas, Sima Lowery (2nd Lady), Sue Morley, Eric Morley, Tony Everitt and Tracy Allison. In the 5k event, James Wright took 1st place, with Ian Mitchell securing 2nd place.
The inaugural ‘Vale of York 10 Mile’ event, based at Rufforth airfield, was also held on Sunday. Guy Close set a PB over the 10 mile distance to finish in a chip time of 01:07:37. He was joined at the event by regular racers Andrea Price and Dawn Richardson. Andrea completed the flat course in 01:31:58, with Dawn finishing with a time of 01:38:49.
