Weekly Round-Up – A hot few days for running

A good turnout at the HDSRL Race 1
It was a warm night for the first of the 2016 Summer Road League races at Ilkley last Thursday. A total of 378 took on the course, with 21 of those representing Knaresborough Striders.

First over the line for the club was Keith Emery, finishing 19th in 29:19. Just under a minute behind was Tom Calvert (30:16) who just held off Martin Brock (30:49). Rob Clarke and Andy Robinson were close all the way around the course, finishing in 31:28 and 31:52 respectively. James Wright was the next Strider back (33:44), followed by Nicola Carter who claimed 1st place in her age category with a time of 34:49. Ian Mitchell had a strong second half in the race to stop the clock on 35:33, leading a pack of six Striders finishing within four minutes of each other. Packed closely were Sima Lowrey (36:19), Conrad Garcia (36:38), Sean Brennan (36:48), Andy Roberts (37:28), Stewart Hymas (37:41) and Julian Carr (38:54). It was the battle of the Morleys next, with Sue (43:51) just finishing ahead of Eric (44:00). Tom Burrell, taking on his first event for Striders this year, completed the course in 45:01, thirteen seconds ahead of Tony Everett (45:14). Completing her first event in Striders colours was Claire Killingworth (46:14) and she was joined by Tracy Allison (47:35) and Edna Wood (48:47).

Club visit to York parkrun
The latest club parkrun was held on Saturday, this time ticking the York event off the list. Seven Striders made their way over to the Knvesmire on a beautiful morning for running. Ian Mitchell led home the Striders contingent, completing the flat course in 21:54. Paul Heywood was next, securing a parkrun PB with a time of 24:31. Tracy Allison stopped the timers on 28:36, and was joined by a 11 year old future Strider Chris Winn (30:31), a Leeds Half Marathon prepping James Wright (30:31) and Edna Wood (30:33). Completing their first ever parkruns were new members Annette and Mark Harper who completed the event in 34:59 and 35:00 respectively.

At Harrogate, Guy Close (or should we call him Mr PB) bagged his 3rd consecutive parkrun PB with a time of 19:13. Nick Wallen was next down the finishing straight, clocking 23:31. Mark Shelton secured a PB in 27:05 and was joined by Rob Charlesworth (28:10) and a PBing Emma Hall (35:00).

Over in Ireland, Laura Baker took on the Navan event, clocking a time of 28:07.

At the Dulwich event in London, Tom Calvert finished in the top 10 with a time of 18:30. Derek Calvert was also in attendance, completing the course in 22:39.

Leeds Half Marathon
The hottest day of the year didn’t provide the most welcome of conditions for the 2016 Leeds Half Marathon on Sunday….but at least it was dry I suppose!! Eleven Striders made the short journey over to Leeds to take on the undulating course and were led home by James Wright (01:31:57). Nicola Carter and Sima Lowery had another close race, finishing in 01:41:19 and 01:41:33 respectively. Julian Carr was next across the finish line in Millennium Square (01:48:19) followed by Sean Brennan (01:49:48), Gemma Harding (02:05:33), Andrea Price (02:08:04) and the prolific PBer Dawn Richardson (02:09:57). Rachel Hargreaves was the next Strider back (02:15:33), with Natalie Hale (02:17:21) shortly behind. Mark Shelton, who only entered the event at 07:30 on the morning, followed with a time 02:26:00 and, taking on her first event since joining the Striders, Clare Rogers, who finished in 02:32:57.
