A right mix – weekly results

A real mix of results to report on this week – from the usual parkruns to triathalons!

A bit of a climb whilst having a pit stop
Going back to Wednesday 6th July, James Warburton and James Wright took on over 1000ft of climbing at the Stirton Fell race, finishing in 39:42 and 49:40 respectively. Also taking on a race that night were Martin Brock and Andy Robinson who attended the Pitstop 10k based at Croft race circuit. Martin finished in a PB time of 37:36, with Andy clocking 39:30.

parkrun – the best part of the weekend?
The rain held off for parkrun on Saturday morning, with a large contingent at the Harrogate event. Guy Close (or Mr PB as I like to call him) secured a course PB (!) with a time of 19:00 exactly. Ian Mitchell was chasing him down and finished in 20:54. Nicola Carter was next, taking the first lady placing at the event, in a time of 21:15. Gareth Conkleton clocked 21:27, with parkrun first timer Graham Taylor just behind in 21:39, who in turn just pipped Andy Roberts (21:54) to the finish line. Sima Lowery made her first visit to the Harrogate event and secured a time of 22:17 and was joined by Julian Carr (22:57), Paul Heywood (24:26), Jane Day (29:28), Katie Byrne (34:44) and Emma Hall (36:18).

At Fountains Abbey, Martin Brock made his first visit to the event and took on the newly proposed ‘winter’ course, finishing in 18:43.

Tri a Tri
James Warburton, Andy Robinson and James Wright headed over to Ripon on Saturday afternoon to take part in the Ripon Triathlon as a relay team. ‘Warbs’ started the event off with a 1.5km swim in the racecourse lake before handing over the batton to Andy for a 42km bike. James finished off the event with a 10km run to bring home the team in a total finish time of 02:13:58.

“We are Leeds, We are Leeds”
On Sunday, Striders were represented by 9 members at the Leeds 10K with results as follows – Rob Earl (38:49), Jason Green (45:15), Mark Shelton (56:54), Stella Jones (57:01), Dawn Richardson (58:02), Tracy Allison (58:18), Roy Cooley (59:04), Anthony Everitt (59:24) and Emma Hall (01:26:39).

Ice Cream Run
Moving onto the current week, on Wednesday night (13/07), Jason Green headed over to Roundhay Park to take part in the 10K Urban Trail Runner event. Jason completed the undulating course in 50:55. His reward was a free ice cream which he apparently demolished in record time!

Weekly Round-Up

A great end to the 2016 HDSRL
The last of the 2016 Harrogate District Summer Road League races took place last Tuesday (28.06). This event had a handicapped start format which made for a rather hectic finish area! Based on actual times, Martin Brock was the first Strider across the line in 33:03, just staying ahead of Tom Calvert (33:17). Guy Close continued his ever improving 2016 form with a time of 34:16 and was closely followed by Rob Clarke (34:28), James Wright (35:28) and Dan Wilson (35:39). Nicola Carter completed the undulating course in 37:18 prior to collecting her Ladies V45 1st place trophy. Ian Mitchell (37:36) headed the rest of the Striders in attendance and was joined by Sima Lowery (37:54), Gareth Conkleton (38:07), Andy Robinson (38:38), Derek Calvert (39:51), Julian Carr (40:02), Sue Morley (45:29), Tony Everitt (46:53), Claire Killingworth (46:59), Natalie Hale (49:22), Tracy Allison (53:40) and Edna Wood (54:36).

A damp parkun day
A wet start to Saturday didn’t put off 18 Striders attending a parkrun, including 7 who visited the Oakwell Park event as part of the latest ‘First Saturday of the Month’ club visit. This parkrun, based at Birstall just off the M62, offered something a bit different to most of the parkuns in the area, sending runners through a mixed terrain and undulating course through a woodland setting. James Wright headed the Striders contingent, taking 4th place in 20:06. Nicola Carter was next, taking the 1st Lady placing with a time of 21:44. Ian Mitchell was next to complete the twisty course with a time of 22:28. He was joined by Julian Carr (23:55), recently joined member Mark Taylor (25:01), Edna Wood 31:54 and, after making a slight detour on the last lap (into a bog), Tom Burrell (35:25) completed the Striders line up. Watch out for details of where we will be visiting on the 6th August for our next club parkrun trip.

On the Stray, Gareth Conkleton (21:34) was first Strider across the line at the Harrogate event. Jason Green secured a PB with 21:46 and just behind was Andy Roberts (21:51). Graeme Kilvingotn, returning from injury, clocked 25:05 to finish just ahead of Paul Heywood (25:28). Katie Byrne secured a 33:26 and Emma Hall completed her 3 laps in 36:00.

An interesting battle is taking place between new member Rob Earl and Guy Close at parkrun. Both have recently dipped under the sub 19:00 mark and seem to be following each other around at recent events. This week they took on Fountains Abbey, with both securing PB’s. Rob stopped the timer on 18:30, with Guy following in 18:55. Sub 18 minutes this year chaps?

Tony Everitt ran at the Wetherby event and bagged a PB in a time of 27:10. Also achieving a PB was Sean Brennan who visited Dalby Forest and completed the course in 20:53.

Sunday = Raceday
Sunday was much drier for the six Striders out and about.

In the Lake District, James Warburton completed the full distance Windermere Triathlon in a time of 02:35:00 to take 7th place overall. Down in Derbyshire, Andy Robinson visited Chatsworth House – not as a tourist, but as a Triathlete! He took on the Peak District Sprint distance triathlon, finishing in 01:23:30.

Up in Newcastle, Nicola Carter took 2nd place in the V45 category at the Great North 10k. Finishing in the International Stadium at Gateshead, Nicola recorded a time of 44:00.

Closer to home, the club was represented at the annual Eccup 10 Mile race. Jason Green was the first Strider to collect his finishing t-shirt in a time of 01:16:17. Newly joined member David Halladay was just over t two minutes behind, finishing with the clock showing 01:18:47. Prolific racer Dawn Richardson completed the Striders line up, securing a time of 01:38:19.

Any results we have missed?
Please let us know if you have taken on an event that we have not reported on. We would love our members to write up short reports on the events they take part in – if you want to submit anything, please send to James Wright via info@knaresborough-striders.org.uk.

Predictor Run – A request for Volunteers and event Information

We are holding a predictor run event at training on Tuesday (5th July).

I could just do with a couple of persons to administrate the finish with me on Tuesday night – please let me know via info@knaresborough-striders.org.uk if you can help.

For the runners, please arrive a bit earlier to register and submit the time you predict for yourself to run the 5km or 5mile course. Entry is £2, with the winner of each of the distances splitting the winnings! NO timing devices are to be carried on the runs. Route Maps will be available on the night and its noteworthy that the 5k is our Time Trial route – our next Time Trial will be on Tuesday 19th July (with the club Summer BBQ following).

Thanks, Eric

Mob Match @ Burton Leonard 10k – 17/07/16

A message from Eric regarding the Burton Leonard 10k –
“As I am scoring the Mob Match and because I do not know some Striders, it would be a big help if everyone
could wear club colours for the race. If you do not have them (or we cannot supply), do go down the
beg/steal/borrow route if possible. Many thanks Eric”

If you would like to purchase a club t-shirt or vest, please see Andy Robinson at a training night.
