It seemed to be the weekend of the Half Marathon for many Striders, with the club well represented at three HM events on Sunday. But lets start our weekly round-up at parkrun….
Is there a better way to start the weekend?
Starting with news from Harrogate parkrun, Rob Earl achieved a new Personal Best with a time of 18:04. Jason Green was also on the PB trail, completing his three laps of the Stray in 21:02. Derek Calvert was just missed out on joining the PB brigade, stopping the clock on 22:28. Mark Shelton continued his improvement with a PB of 26:28. Edna Wood completed the Striders lines up, completing the event in 28:27. Over at Fountains Abbey, Paul Heywood recorded a PB with a time of 23:00 and he was joined by Fountains regulars David Halladay (26:41) and Dawn Richardson (35:28). Guy Close visited Wetherby, having a strong run to complete the course in 18:41. Completing the parkrun news, Tom Calvert recorded a time of 18:48 on his visit to the Crystal Palace event in London.
13.1 miles on a hot morning – whats not to like?!
Onto the Half Marathon results from Sunday now, where 27 Striders took on one of three events on a warm morning for running.
At the Great North Run, James Wright set a new Half Marathon PB with a time of 01:24:58. Next across the finish line in South Shields was Jason Green in a time of 01:42:11, followed by Julian Carr (01:48:51) and John Slater (01:49:19). Taking on his first HM, Graham Taylor achieved a time of 01:53:01 and was joined over the finish line by Jane Day just under 9 minutes later (02:01:57). Laura Baker, also completing her first ever event of the 13.1 mile distance stopped the clock on 02:06:38 and was chased down by Jonny Chadwick and Gemma Harding who ran together to both record a time of 02:07:52. Rachel Hargreaves was next (02:08:29) and was followed by Natalie Hale (02:12:06), Dawn Richardson (02:12:43), HM debutant Charlotte Hines (02:16:20) and Jo Bower (02:17:26). Joanne Fowler and Lucy Cartwright both earned their HM stripes, running together all the way and completing the course in 02:22:36. Janet Morris was the next Strider to enter the finish funnel (02:54:21) and she was joined by Liz Bowden (02:54:42) and Elaine Charlesworth (03:05:28).
In Sherburn In Elmet, six Striders completed the Vale of York Half Marathon in hot conditions. Ian Mitchell returned from a recent injury to clock 01:38:27 and taking the first Strider home accolade. David Halladay wasn’t far behind with a time of 01:42:03 and he was joined by recently joined members Fiona Slight (02:04:42) and Suzy Kerr (02:08:26). Clare McKenzie stopped the timers watch on 02:14:30 and was joined by Karen McNaughton (02:33:40) to round off the Striders contingents excellent results.
Taking on a slightly different Half Marathon, Sean Brennan and Nicola Carter both attended the ‘Yorkshireman Half’ based at Howarth. On the undulating, multi terrain course, Sean recorded 02:19:53, with Nicola hot on his heels with a time of 02:21:37.
