Top weather for some running – it’s the weekly round-up

It has been a fantastic weekend for running weather wise, allowing Striders competing at various events over the weekend to achieve some fantastic results. We start, as usual, with the parkrun round up….

A story of firsts
Although parkrun is very much not a race, it’s always great to see a club member handed the 1st place token. Tom Calvert was the recipient this week via a time of 18:03 at Fountains Abbey which was the venue for the latest monthly club visit. Following Tom up the last ‘undulation’ at the event was James Wright who recorded a course PB of 18:41. Ian Mitchell was next in a time of 20:32, with a Sean Brennan chasing him down and securing a course PB of 20:57. Edna Wood recorded 28:29 and Alison Jackson stopped the clock on 30:18.

At Dalby Forest, Sima Lowery joined Tom in taking a first place – this time 1st Female to cross the line. She achieved a time of 22:34 on her first visit to this venue.

Harrogate parkrun welcomed six Striders for its 3 laps. Guy Close and Rob Earl battled it out from start to finish but it was Guy who took the first Strider home slot with a course PB time of 18:14, closey followed by Rob who crossed the line in 18:22. Dan Foley took on his first parkrun since joining the club and stopped the clock just over the 20 minute mark in 20:06. Sue Morley secured a parkrun PB with her time of 24:25 and she was joined by Tony Everitt (26:42) and Emma Hall (40:24).

The hills of Sheffield…
The latest event to join the ‘Run for All’ family was the Sheffield 10k on Sunday. The event took participants on a testing course out and back from the city centre, including two decent sized hill climbs. Jason Green and Mark Shelton represented the Striders and secured times of 43:41 and 56:44 respectively….and were still smiling after the race as can be seen from the photograph below!

“Fog on the Tyne is all mine, all mine”
Dawn Richardson headed up North to take on the new Half Marathon between Whitley Bay and Newcastle – an event that formed part of the wider Morpeth to Newcastle event consisting of a marathon, the half marathon, a 10k and a bike race. The HM route followed the river tyne back to the centre of Newcastle along a predominalty flat route. Dawn had a great run and finished in a time of 02:16:38.

Striding out at Wistow
Mr and Mrs Cooley – AKA Roy and Anne took on the Wistow 10k on Sunday. This event is hosted by the Selby Striders and attracts a large field every year. Roy dipped under the 1 hour mark with a finish time of 58:44. Anne, continuing her preparation for next weeks Guy Fawkes 10 Mile event, completed the course in 01:03:46 to secure a 10k Personal Best.
