PECO CROSS COUNTRY RELAYS- GREAT FUN FOR ALL ,LETS GO STRIDERS

Hello members,

I am hoping we can turn out loads of teams  for this event on March 12th. I could also do with some Volunteers to help out as Striders are co-hosting the event  with 2 other clubs.

Its loads of fun -as relays always are.

We could turn out  a Representative team for Striders I lady, 1Vet 40 and 1 Senior man.

We are also offered to bring Man and Ladies team ,  Seniors

Vet + L vet 40

Vet + L vet 50

If anyone wants to come as  an adhoc team ,,these are most welcome. e.g 2 ladies  , 1 man or vice versa, or any other mix.

You do not need to have run cross country at all this season or even Registered for it, its open to all Club members. No Juniors please.

I have had a few enquiries already and would welcome many more  for Running and Volunteering. I am at Club 28/2/17 and available  at eric_morley@hotmail.com     + 01423 866983.

Sooner I have names I can start coordinating teams  those who want that, and  for those who have picked a couple  of friends  to run  with I can pass info to them too.

The more car sharing the better. The event is near Halifax, Cricket Club. Northowram    HX3 7EN

Any info Ive missed I let you know Asap. There is more to come from Organiser too. Thanks Eric

Results, Results, Results…read all about it….it’s been a while!

It has been a few weeks since our last results roundup, so take a breath and here we goooooooooo…….

High Five for parkrun
On Saturday 21st January, nine Striders took on a parkrun and were split between five venues.
At Woodhouse Moor in Leeds (the first parkrun to start outside of London), Paul Heywood and Edna Wood recorded times of 24:14 and 29:55 respectively. James Cornforth took on the South Manchester event, setting a time of 18:45. Sean Brennan added anouther parkrun to his collection by visiting the South Yorkshire venue of Barnsley (as a write it, it make me say “Barnsley” in a ‘proper’ Yorkshire accent!) and stopped the clock on a time of 21:39. More local to home, Guy Close had a ‘slip n slide’ around the playing fields at Wetherby to clock 19:01 and at Harrogate, Nicola Carter took on pacer duties to finish in 22:55. She was followed by James Wright (27:42), David Halladay (29:25) and Mark Taylor (29:56).

Peco XC Season continues
The 3rd race in the 16/17 PECO XC championsips was held on 22nd January. This was an exciting (ok so I was excited!) morning for the club as the new gazebo got its first outing and was put to good use by the 17 Striders in attendance.

Keith Emery led the way for the Striders, setting a time of 33:11. Tom Calvert was just over a minute behind (34:39) and was followed by Ian Waller (37:58). Nicola Carter kept up her good cross country form to clock 39:22 and continue her domination of her age group. Sima Lowery was 2nd Striders lady in a time of 40:36 and was joined by David Halladay (44:45), Cross Country first timer Paul Heywood (47:54), Andy Roberts (48:18), Claire Killingworth (48:21), Eric Morley (51:26), Julie Elmes (52:26), Tony Everitt (53:50), Kez Welsby (54:11), June Graham (56:08), Edna Wood (56:21), Anne Cooley (01:01:57) and Alison Jackson (01:02:06).

Striders over the Border
The last Saturday in January (28th) saw Striders represented at a Scottish parkrun as Alison Jackson completed the Edinburgh course in 30:25. Guy Close headed down the A1 to visit Pontefract, recording a time of 18:18 at the racecourse based event. Anthony Everitt took on the revised course at Fountains Abbey (path maintenance has caused them to change the course for a few weeks) and clocked 28:24. At Harrogate, Martin Brock was the first of 6 Striders to cross the line (19:10). He was followed by Paul Heywood (24:45), Rob Charlesworth (28:00), Samantha-Jane Young (29:26), Mark Taylor (29:59) and Emma Hall (38:30).

Dark, Muddy, A Forest…whats not to like?
Also on the Saturday, three Striders headed to Dalby Forest for a Night Run. This was a fantastic event taken on by just over 500 people – all with headtorches on to help guide them through the dark and muddy conditions on the 5 mile course. James Wright was the first of the Striders to sprint down the last hill, crossing the line in a time of 39:49. Nicola Carter was just over 1 minute behind, taking 3rd lady placing in 40:53. Georgina Townsend was the 3rd Strider in attendance, recording a time of 51:15.

Trying not to get eaten by lions….
Also on the Saturday, Julie Elmes headed over the Pennines to take part in the Northern Cross Country Championships which were this year held at Knowsley Safari Park. Julie completed the 8km course in 53:13.

A bit of parkrun tourism
This past Saturday was the first one of the month and therefore a Striders parkrun trip was in order! The chosen venue on this occasion, taken on by nine Striders, was Roundhay Park in Leeds. This is a hilly course but it comes with a bonus of taking place on an all tarmac course – a bonus in the winter months! Tom Calvert was the first of the Striders to complete the 3 laps course, finishing in a time of 18:34. He was joined in the parkrun tourism by James Wright (19:45), Nicola Carter (21:45), Mark Taylor (23:15), Derek Calvert (24:39), Paul Heywood (25:30), Mark Shelton (28:57), Edna Wood (30:14) and Emma Hall (37:43).

It seemed to be the weekend for parkrun tourism, with Striders visiting a further three events that can be classed as ‘out of the area’. Claire Killingworth attended the Albert Park event in Middlesborough, clocking a time of 23:56 for a new overall parkrun PB. Dan Foley headed to Bryn Bach in Wales where he crossed the line in 20:02. James Cornforth made his way to the South Manchester event and secured a time of 19:08.

Back in Yorkshire, James Ireland and Julian Carr visited Wetherby to represent the Striders on a day when the event was ‘taken over’ by Nidd Valley Road Runners as part of their club championships. They finished in 20:01 and 24:12 respectively. Dawn Richardson was the sole Strider at Fountains Abbey, recording a time of 31:33.

A milestone was reached for the club at Harrogate parkrun, with 100 different Striders now having completed at least one of the 268 runs on the Stray to date. Luke Ratcliffe was the first Strider back in 23:09 and he was joined on a cold morning on the Stray by Anthony Everitt (27:58), parkrunner first timer Fiona Slight (33:03), Gaynor Downs (35:24) and another first timer, Lauren Downs (43:41).

Speedy PB
On Sunday, Guy Close continued his amazing form to finish the Dewsbury 10K in a very speedy 10K PB time of 37:54. Look out for Guy in the rather fetching event t-shirt at training on Tuesday night!
