Lockdown – New Guidance from England Athletics

This evening, England Athletics have issued their revised guidance for running following the announcement new national COVID-19 restrictions. Despite EA lobbying DCMS for certain exemptions yesterday, that seems to have been unsuccessful and therefore this new guidance will apply from Thursday 5 November 2020 until Wednesday 2 December 2020.

Here are the key points affecting us a club:

  • All indoor or outdoor club group coaching or competitive activity is suspended.
  • You can train with your household or one other person in a public outdoor space
  • 1:1 coaching can take place in a public outdoor space following social distancing measures
  • Virtual activities of course remain OK.

This confirms that we must, as expected, suspend our training and coaching sessions in their current format of 6s for the time being.

We are now considering how we will help to keep our members connected, motivated and running over the coming week and make the best of a trickier situation. We know how much getting out and running means to so many of you – both physically and mentally! We hope to provide more news in the coming days, so watch this space!

Stay safe and enjoy your activity!
