“Dark times lie ahead of us and there will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right.”
Prof. Albus Dumbledore
He was of course referring to the problems which runners and joggers face at this time of year, but what is ‘easy‘?
“I’ve no-one to run with…”
“These crisps are going out of date and that box set isn’t going to watch itself….”
So what is ‘right‘ then?
Get yourself down to Knaresborough Striders on Tuesday and Thursday nights! Grab yourself some hi-vis, maybe a headtorch and something reflective, and join like-minded folks running and training right through the dark months!
Wanting running or jogging groups, heading out for local runs with trained leaders? That’s still happening.
Fancying structured training to improve your performance? Yep, that still happens.
Needing to get that all-important mileage in before a big event? There will be others needing to do the same!
Needing to moan about your strained ligaments or get ideas for your next race challenge? There is a lot of useful (and useless) chatter out on our runs and in the bar afterwards!
Our existing members know all about the benefits of ‘Striding’ through the dark months but if you fancy giving it a try why not head down to a club night soon?
More details about the benefits, training and how to join are right here on our website: http://knaresborough-striders.org.uk/about-the-club/
See you soon!
Great News for Sunday’s Crag Rat Run!
We sold out our original places and most of a last-minute extension also sold well. That means a record entry for our event! The remaining places (just 30) will be available on the day.
We will still welcome any cake contributions (in aid of Aspin Park Sensory Room) and any last-minute helpers and volunteers will help us – please see Jez.
Bob didn’t enter the Knaresborough Crag Rat Run online. He thought he’d just leave it until the day.
Bob didn’t realise that the incredible little 5 mile mixed-terrain race was more popular than ever.
Bob missed out.
Don’t be like Bob. Grab one of the last few places whilst you can… and save yourself 2 quid in the process.

Our wonderful Crag Rat Run takes place on Sunday 23rd September – not long left! The places are nearly filled-up, the marshall roster is healthy, so the next thing is CAKES!
We will be running our popular catering stall at the race and it needs your help! If you are a budding Mary Berry or perhaps fancy yourself as the next Prue Leith (bizarre necklaces not essential) then could you cook-up something for us? Cakes, buns, muffins, flapjacks….. it would be sweet if you could provide anything please. But no soggy bottoms please.
Your creations should be brought along on the day please. We’ll be really appreciative and if it’s several cakes stacked up, well it might even leave us in tiers.
Calling our Lady Striders… some extra support available for your running.
Get yourself signed-up quickly our free ‘Bras and Bubbles’ night!
Did you know 80% of women run with an incorrectly fitted bra?
On Wednesday 26th September, Suzanne is hosting a evening for our female members to show-off Brooks’ range of sports bras and to measure ladies to check they are in the right size. There will be changing rooms on-site and an attractive 20% off on the evening for those who wish to purchase. All this is will done whilst drinking complimentary Prosecco!
Please sign-up for this event by clicking HERE.
Tomorrow evening (Thursday 13th Sept) is our ‘Predictor Run’.
A test of how well you know your own pace…. how accurately can you predict your time around our 5k or 5mile courses – with no watch, no phone, just your feet and gut feel!
It’s not a race, indeed you can pick whatever pace you fancy…. but will it get you back in your predicted time?
It’s just £1 to enter, with cash prizes for those with the closest predictions! Be at the clubhouse, from 7pm.
Note that this isn’t a race and therefore isn’t marshalled. You will find your own way around the chosen course. With the darkening evenings we advise high visibility and even lights for all our sessions now.
The 5 km course is the same as that used for our three time trials.
The 5 mile course is detailed below:
In summary: Aspin Lane – Stockdale Walk – Windsor Lane -Briggate – Waterside – Bond End – Borobridge Road – Scriven Road – Greengate Lane – Halfpenny Lane – Chain Lane – York Road – Gracious Street – Windsor Lane – Stockdale Walk – Aspin Lane
Starting order and time gaps for Time Trial #3
This Tuesday – 11th September – sees our final Time Trial of the year. We will tackle the same 5km course for a third time, but this time around it’s a handicap based on your best finishing time from the previous two events.
Runners will head off at intervals over a period of 26minutes. You can find your ‘gap’ back from the first runner in the table below. It will be really useful if you have familiarised yourself with this and keep yourselves in order as your approach the start – once underway the starts will be very frequent and only seconds apart! We expect our first runner to be away shortly after 7.30pm. Please arrive early after 7pm to register.
If you have not taken part in either of the two previous events, you can still take part, heading out with our first runner at 0:00.
We should end up with a mass of runners arriving back over a very short period, so we will appreciate extra helpers at the finish to record the times.
A printable version of the start sheet is available here: TT3 Start positions and gaps
Thanks to Eric for preparing all of this!
