Politics Postpones Predictor Run! *New Date*

The forthcoming by-election for Knaresborough’s second seat on NYCC has been scheduled for 16th August – the same night as ‘Predictor Run’. With the Cricket Club being used as a polling station, our space for organising the event will be limited. Not to mention the trip hazard of people taking pictures of their dogs outside.

So in the interest of democracy, safety and #dogsatpollingstations we have postponed the Predictor Run by two weeks until Thursday 30th. Normal running groups will go ahead on 16th August from the Clubhouse bar.

PredictorPredictor Run challenges to you predict your time around our 5k or 5mile courses – no watch, no phone, just your feet and gut feel!

Speed doesn’t matter but accuracy does!

There will be prizes for those with the closest predictions!

Details of our forthcoming events can be found on our Events Page

Striders’ parkrun Report – June 2018

*Hoorah! We’ve fixed the blockage in our Race Reports pipe. Sorry for that. Turns out that June was so big it had got stuck in there, so henceforth the parkruns and races will be delivered to you separately!*

Striders’ parkrun report – June 2018

parkrun report

Knaresborough Striders were once again handsomely represented at parkrun during June. The events go from strength to strength and present a great chance for our members to regularly test their progress or simply enjoy a 5k run in a variety of surroundings to kick-start their weekend! The stats this month: 96 runs at 14 different venues!

Saturday 2nd June

The first weekend of the month saw the return of Striders’ monthly parkrun visit, with the first venue chosen being the former liquorice capital (and now Haribo-producing) Pontefract. On a slightly misty and damp morning the sight of the Striders entourage was clearly a welcome boost to the hardworking event team making their final preparations. Beginning and ending with tours of the lake (complete with duck hazards) the course takes in a perimeter tour of Europe’s longest flat racing course. Our Striders discovered it to be far from ‘flat’ however, with ‘rolling’ perhaps being a more fitting description! Punters waging an on-the-nose Striders bet were in luck, with James Wright galloping up the final furlong to take 1st place in 18:21. Steve Morland proved to be worth an each-way bet, taking 3rd place 19:34! Gary Wilkinson galloped through the field in 22:52 with first filly Claire Baxter coming up strongly on the rails in 23:31. Still improving, Julian Carr clocked a very creditable 24:14 followed by Catherine Morland in 24:40. Mark Shelton’s strong finish guaranteed him an excellent 26:44, closely chased in Jess Dobson in 26:50. In a close field, Natalie Hale raced in with 27:04, with the Striders’ stable completed by Tracy Allison (28:08) and running-mate Anthony Everitt in 29:27.

Middleton Woods (Leeds)

Ted Welton (20:39) – 8th overall and en route to Endure24!

So that’s it for parkruns in June – nearly 100 free, weekly, timed runs and 480km in the bag. Well done folks!

If you’re missing from the list please let me know – it will be due to one of two things: a) the editor’s incompetence, or b) you haven’t selected ‘Knaresborough Striders’ as your club in your parkrun profile – help on that can be found here: Update Running Club

Structured Sessions over the next few weeks…

Firstly, very well done to those hardy souls who turned out between thunderstorms on Thursday! We had to postponed Emma’s session due to ground conditions but some useful fun runs were had around the area. Emma’s session will be rescheduled – look out for news on that soon!

Our regular Tuesday structured training sessions will continue throughout the Summer, led by the excellent and enthusiastic Jez Wilkinson whilst Eric spends some quality time with his bionic knee.

Next session is Tuesday 31st July, focusing on speed endurance. Location should be KJS fields – meet as usual at the Cricket club, ready to stride out at 7.30pm.

Tuesday 7th August will also offer Structured Training, plus the chance to try Hoka One One’s ‘Clifton 5’ shoes, courtesy of Up & Running: Clifton 5 Try-on night

Tues 7th August – Clifton5 try-out

The late great James Brown had soul, but he never had a sole like the Clifton 5 from Hoka One One.

On Tuesday 7th August you can come along to club for the usual selection of training and runs, and get to try on a pair of the latest Hokas to boot. All courtesy, of course, of our lovely friends at Up & Running Harrogate. They might just be the shoes you’re looking for – never again will you suffer the agony of de feet.

Thursday 26th July – Coach Emma

TONIGHT – Thursday 26th July – sees the latest session with our excellent visiting coach, Emma Kicks from Ridgeway Fitness & Health.

The session will be varied and should suit everyone: Core Stability work, specific running drills and varied intervals. It’s likely to be hot again so remember to bring water!
Venue will be King James’s School – Meet at the Cricket Clubhouse as normal by 7.30pm.

Emma is a qualified and experienced coach with UK Athletics well-known around the local area. Her training sessions are suited to runners of all abilities and aimed at improving running style and increasing fitness to enhance performance and reduce risk of injury.
