The month of love…..but let’s just go running instead!

Along with our usual Tuesday and Thursday night training sessions, there are a number of other events taking place in February. A summary of ‘Whats On’ is below.

Thursday 4th February – Emma David Training Session
Emma will be taking a structured session that is suitable for all abilities. These are always really worthwhile sessions, with great feedback provided from previous participants. Meet at the clubhouse at the normal time of 19:30.

Saturday 6th February – Pontefract parkrun
Our first monthly parkrun visit of 2016 is to Pontefract parkrun. If you haven’t taken part in a parkrun event before why not join us? A free, 5km event that is open to all abilities – just register at parkrun.org.uk for your barcode. We will be operating a car share scheme to this event – please meet at KCC for 07:55am (08:00am departure).

Tuesday 9th February – Anniversary Party and AGM
Join us after training for the Striders Anniversary Party and AGM. The night will include presentation of the yearly awards, taking a look back at the highlights of 2015, looking ahead to how the club can progress in 2016 and undertaking a short AGM (which will also include appointment of new committee members). Hot food will be provided (£2) and the bar will be open.

Sunday 14th February – Peco Cross Country @ Roundhay Park
The 5th and final race of the 15/16 Peco Cross Country season will be held at Roundhay Park. It should be an exciting close to the season, with Striders ladies on the verge of taking top spot honours in 3 separate categories and the Mens team looking to beat Harrogate Harriers in the 2nd Division. If you haven’t competed on one of these events before, why not come and have a go?! See Eric Morley for further information.

Saturday 20th February – First Club Championship event @ Harrogate parkrun
The Stray plays host to the first Club Championship event of 2016 – Harrogate parkrun. Just turn up with your parkrun barcode and we will take a note of the all the Striders in attendance. Who will take an early lead in the championships? Every event counts so why not come down and get some ‘points on the board’?

PECO CROSS COUNTRY – 14/02/2016 – Roundhay Park, Leeds

Wanted! More Men and Ladies for the final race in the Peco Cross Country league. Come and give it a try with perhaps a view to full participation in the 2016/17 season. It is great fun, muddy at times, friendly, courses no more than 5 miles, food after the event and a really wide standard of runners taking part.

To run in the final event (14/02/16) and be “a counter for the team”, please contact me before 04/02/16. If you contact me after this you can run as a Guest. I will be at club 02/02/16 and available on phone 01423 866983 for contact.

Lets have a massive turn out from all those with numbers already and have a great day.

More information for Race 5 and the Peco Relays (on 28/2) will be available as soon as I have it.

Go Striders.

Regards – Eric Morley

Peco XC – Race 4 – Sunday 24th January

The fourth race of the 15/16 Peco XC League will be held on Sunday 24th January at Golden Acre Park (approx. 30 minute drive from KCC).

Registration and start times as follows;
• Women
Registration – 09:15am until 10:30am / Start – 10:40am
• Men
Registration – 10:15am until 11:15am / Start – 11:30am

If you would like to be a part of the club car share scheme, please meet at KCC for 09:10am, for a 09:15am departure (this takes into account the Women’s start time). This will allow plenty of time to travel to the venue, get parked up, pitch our tent and club flag, allow each participant to register for the race (£3 on the day) and get warmed up prior to the start times. Please also complete the sign up sheet on the club noticeboard so we know who is taking part in the car share scheme or who will meet us there.

Upon arrival, please take note of the following regarding car parking (taken directly from the Peco XC website) –
“Parking is very limited, so PLEASE car share if at all possible!! The Arthington Road car park is fairly small, so, unless you arrive early, it is probably best to park in the main car park (on the A660) and walk across the park to the race HQ. If you park on Arthington Road itself, please do so with care and consideration: only park on the northbound side (i.e. the same side as the car park) and with your vehicle facing north (i.e. facing the correct way for driving on that side of the road). It is highly likely that the police will cruise by looking for dangerously and / or illegally parked vehicles. You have been warned!”

Also note that this course is suitable for spikes.
