Time Trial (Handicap) – Tuesday 6th September

On Tuesday night (06.09.16) we are holding our third and final time trial of the year. This TT is a handicap race based on times from the first and second TT’s held earlier in the year, but is also open to anyone that hasn’t had the opportunity to take part in one of the events this year already. Anyone new to the TT’s will start with the first person off.

Please arrive at the club a littler earlier then usual so that you can be provided with a race number and we can get everyone in order ready for the start at approx 19:40. We need a swift start to ensure we have everyone around the first lap before its too dark!

For those new, the 2 lap course is just under 5k long using the streets around the area. A full course map will be available on the night and the course will be marshaled.

The starting positions, along with the handicap start times, can be found here.

Results are here… a bit late but still a good read!

Firstly, apologies for the delay in getting this week’s report written up….there were quite a few to find! Take a breath, here we go……

Triology
On Wednesday 17th August, Andy Robinson took part in the latest ‘Triology’ triathlon sprint event, based near Catterick. The event involved a 400m open water swim, 15.5km bike and 2.2km run around the lake. Andy completed the course in 46.33 to secure 5th place in his category.

Over the sea to parkrun
Dan Wilson ventured over to the Isle of Wight for some parkrun tourism (it’s not the only reason he visited just to clarify!), visiting the islands event based at Medina. He recorded a time of 19:54 to take 5th place.

Also undertaking a spot of tourism was Graham Taylor, who whilst holidaying down in Norfolk went to Blickling. The parkrun here is based within the grounds of Blicking Hall, which is a National Trust property that they took over in 1940. Graham recorded a time of 21:42.

Tom Calvert made his second consecutive visit to the Dulwich event, finishing in 18:12.

Closer to home at Harrogate, Keith Emery was the first Strider back, stopping the clock in a PB time of 18:33. Follwing him was James Wright (19:12), Andy Robinson (20:07) and Nicola Carter (21:35). The next three Striders home had their own version of the 100m sprint along the finish straight, with Derek Calvert taking the judge’s decision on the photo finish in 22:26, with Julian Carr and Jason Green recording the same time. Mark Taylor (22:43) was next, followed by Paul Heywood (23:46), Mark Shelton (27:25) and Anne Cooley (32:12).

David Halladay and Dawn Richardson made their usual visits to Fountains Abbey, finishing in 26:01 and 28:08 respectively.

Up and Down the Fells
On Saturday afternoon, Eric and Sue Morley headed over to the Burnsall Fell Race. This is race steeped in history in the Fell running world and although it is a relatively short 1.5m long, it involves a climb of 899ft! Sue finished first in her age category in a time of 29:26 with Eric following in 40:36 (although he tells me that he would have beaten Sue if he hadn’t got lost on the way back down….)

A hot and humid 10k at Escrick
Warm conditions greeted the five Striders in attendance at the Escrick 10k on Sunday morning. Guy Close was first back in a rapid 39:14. David Halladay was next, crossing the line in 47:34, and he was joined by Dawn Richardson (59:31), Sue Randell (01:06:16) and Emma Greveson (01:15:47). Well done all!

Trails at Meanwood
Jason Green completed the third race in the 2016 Leeds Urban Trail Series at Middleton Woods. The race took competitors on 7 miles of testing trails around Middleton Woods before a lap of the South Leeds stadium track and a grandstand finish. Jason completed the event in 48:51.

Sessay Swift 6k
There was an excellent turnout of 16 Striders at the Sessay Swift on Wednesday (24/08) evening. The results have yet to be published and will therefore be in next week’s report.

GUY FAWKES 10

Just for clarity, the Guy Fawkes 10 mile race (to be held on 6th November) is still a counter in the Club Championship and is available to enter at this link

Thanks,

Eric
