SUMMER ROAD LEAGUE Important information

For those members who purchased a Summer Road League bib /number and have not been able to use it the SRL committee have told us you can come and run in the Handicap (Tuesday28th June) at Ripon event if you wish. You will not qualify for a prize but can join in the fun.

KEY When do I start. QUOTE.— That is for you to decide, perhaps with someone whose standard you know or just a minute or two behind them. Better to start
later, rather than to early so that you cross the line first ,only to be disqualified from the prize list UNQUOTE.

Whatever happens do not run with someone elses number.

thanks Eric

Club Time Trial July 19th Volunteers

At any given event organised by Striders we usually end up with the required amount of Marshalls, mainly the same group of people who make our events run smoothly and we are all pleased about that. However if you have not volunteered before it would be nice to see some new faces for the Time Trial. None of it is rocket science. Please see me inthe coming weeks if you can help.

Cheers Eric

July 19th 2nd Time Trial

Our 2nd Time Trial over a local 5 kilometre course is a good sharpening event for Park runs and 10k. For those who did the first Time Trial , a chance to compare how your going. For newer members a chance to establish a time and do a comparison at the 3rd event in September.

The event starts approximately 19.45 so please come early for Registration purposes.

The Club Barbecue follows the event.

Summer Road League

Big congratulations to all who tackled the Thirsk Summer Road event last night 16/6. Results and report to come. Most importantly, those of you who have done 2 races or more PLEASE RETAIN YOUR RACE NUMBER FOR THE HANDICAP EVENT 28/6

Bed Race Day!

Saturday was a busy day for a number of Striders, primarily due to the Bed Race, but is started with club representation at Harrogate parkrun.

Ian Mitchell headed the Striders contingent, clocking a time of 21:06. Mark Taylor secured a PB with a time of 23:15, and he was followed by Paul Heywood, who also achieved a PB in a time of 25:00. Rob Charlesworth was next to complete his 3 laps of the Stray, reaching the finish line in 28:10. Edna Wood continued her return to running from injury, before taking on marshaling duties at the Bed Race, with a time of 32:15.

The main event of the day was the Great Knaresborough Bed Race. The club had three teams in the 51st running of the event, with a mix of old and new participants taking on this crazy Yorkshire event! After the parade through the town centre, it was down to business at 3pm with teams setting off every 10 seconds from Conyngham Hall.
The Striders men’s team started the day with three main aims – to finish in the Top 5, to finish in less than 15 minutes and to beat the Nidd Valley men’s team. The gents had a strong run throughout and secured 4th place overall after successfully overtaking two teams (including one shoulder to shoulder effort in the market place) to complete the course in 14:07. This was 1 minute faster than last year and 20 seconds ahead of Nidd Valley! Special thanks to ‘super-sub’ Simon Shaw for stepping into the team on Thursday morning after Guy Close was taken down by the dreaded River Nidd lurgy earlier in the week (hope you are feeling better soon Guy!). The Ladies team, which included 3 first time bed racers, completed the course in 22:24 to take 77th position overall. Our club Mixed Team – the ‘Blue Bullet Flyers’ – secured a 17th place finish with a speedy 16:39. Bring on the 2017 race!

team striders

A big thanks to Andy Robinson for undertaking a large number of wheel repairs on all three beds prior to Saturday, Stewart Hymas for offering the use of his entry for our mixed team, the club members who marshaled at the event on behalf of our teams (Alison Jackson, Edna Wood, Paul Heywood, Mark Shelton and Eric Morley) and all of the club members who were out on the course cheering the teams on – its a big boost to hear “go on Striders” when you are wanting to stop at the top of Castle Ings (and most other places on the course!!). Also a huge thanks to Martin Brock and the rest of the team at the Knaresborough Lions – without them, the event wouldn’t happen.
